Features

A studio that hides in an island.

Every demo on this page is live. Drag on a frame, pick a tool in the island, or press the real shortcut — the fake desktop reacts.

Capture

Select what matters. The rest stays dimmed.

The desktop dims, a crosshair and pixel magnifier follow the pointer, and a live size readout trails the selection. Release and the file is already saved.

  • Eight modes — area, fullscreen, window, All-in-One, last area, clipboard-only, self-timer, scrolling.
  • Window snap highlights the window under the cursor and locks to its bounds.
  • Capture presets remember a size you use often.
  • AreaAlt + Shift + 1
  • FullscreenAlt + Shift + 2
  • WindowAlt + Shift + 3
  • ScrollingAlt + Shift + 6

Drag on the desktop to punch a hole through the dim.

Countdown, red border, click rings, key overlay, camera PiP.

Record

Show the click. Keep the voice. Hide the rest.

Record the whole display or a region, with system audio, an optional mic, and a circular camera PiP you can click straight through.

  • Click highlights and a key overlay so viewers can follow along.
  • MP4 or animated GIF, exported with ffmpeg locally.
  • Fade on hover moves the PiP out of the way when you need what is under it.

Editor

Markup that looks like you meant it.

Arrow, line, rectangle, ellipse, text, freehand, highlighter, pixelate, numbered counters, crop presets, undo, and a one-click beautify pass.

  • Opens on capture, on Ctrl + E from the clipboard, or by double-clicking any image file.
  • Every object stays editable until you export.

Pick a tool and a colour in the black bar, then draw on the frame.

OCR & translation

Grab the words, not the pixels.

Tesseract runs on your machine. Translation goes to whichever provider you configured — and nowhere else.

History

Searchable, with a retention you pick.

Screenshots and recordings stay in History for a day, a month, or forever. Everything sits under %APPDATA%\Capto where you can back it up like any other folder.

Your keys, your bucket, your link.

Capto signs the request itself and copies the public HTTPS URL. There is no Capto server in the path, so nothing to go down and nothing to leak.

Automation

capto:// and file associations.

Opt in to automation URLs and any script, launcher or macro pad can trigger a capture. Register Capto for image files and double-click straight into the editor.

Secrets

DPAPI, not a text file.

Provider API keys and cloud credentials are encrypted with Windows DPAPI and scoped to your user account. Diagnostic logging is off by default and stays local when you turn it on.

Capto

Try it on your own screen.

The demos here are a drawing of the app. The app is better.
