Capture. Shape.
Keep what matters.

Explore the core Windows workflows: frame a result, refine it, and keep it close in Library or send it somewhere useful.

Capture

Drag a region.
The rest stays dimmed.

Full-screen guides, a 120px loupe with the pixel hex, and an opaque size chip. Release and the result is ready for its next action. Saving follows your Settings.

  • Eight modes — area, fullscreen, window, all-in-one, last area, clipboard-only, self-timer, scrolling.
  • Window snap highlights the window under the cursor and locks to its bounds.
  • Capture presets remember a size you reach for often.
  • AreaAlt+Shift+1
  • FullscreenAlt+Shift+2
  • WindowAlt+Shift+3
  • ScrollingAlt+Shift+6

Drag on the desktop to punch a hole through the dim.

Record

Record the click
and the voice.

Record the whole display or a region, with system audio, an optional mic, and a circular camera PiP you can click straight through.

  • Click highlights and a key overlay, so viewers can follow along.
  • MP4 or animated GIF, exported with a bundled FFmpeg locally.
  • Fade on hover moves the PiP aside when you need what is under it.
  • Cursor smoothing keeps the pointer from jittering in the final cut.

Countdown, recording border, click rings, key overlay, camera PiP.

Editor

Mark it up
before anyone asks.

Arrow, rectangle, ellipse, text, freehand, highlighter, pixelate, counters, crop, undo.

  • Opens on capture, on Ctrl + E from the clipboard, or by double-clicking any image file.
  • Every object stays editable until you export.
  • Pixelate anything that should not have been on screen.

Pick a tool and a colour in the black bar, then draw on the frame.

OCR and translation

Read the text.
Leave the pixels.

OCR runs on your machine in English plus the primary language you choose. Uncached Tesseract worker, core, or language assets may download from jsDelivr. OCR and translation return text directly and never enter Library; translation goes only to the provider you configure.

Capture and translate in one pass · AltShiftT

English plus your primary language.

Capto recognises English and the primary OCR language you choose in Settings. It does not auto-detect languages.

Seven providers, or none.

Built-in keyless, OpenAI, DeepSeek, OpenRouter, DeepL, Google Cloud Translation, or a custom endpoint you supply.

Region, window, or selection.

Read a dragged region, a whole window, or translate whatever text is already selected on screen.

Scrolling capture

The whole page,
not the visible third.

Pick the pane and step back. Capto scrolls it, grabs a frame per step, removes the overlap between them and writes one continuous PNG.

  • Sticky headers are detected once and painted a single time.
  • The stitch runs entirely locally and, when Save to History is enabled, lands in Library.

Library & share

Keep the useful part.
Choose where it goes.

Searchable, with a retention you pick. Captures and recordings saved while Save to History is on remain in Library for the retention period you choose. Everything sits under %APPDATA%\Capto, where you can back it up like any other folder.

Your keys, your bucket, your link. Capto signs the request itself and copies the public HTTPS URL. There is no Capto server in the path, so nothing to go down and nothing to leak.

Automation URLs and file associations.

Opt in to automation URLs and any script, launcher or macro pad can trigger a capture. Register Capto for image files and double-click straight into the editor.

capto://grab/window?ocr=true

DPAPI, not a text file.

Provider API keys and cloud credentials are encrypted with Windows DPAPI and scoped to your user account. Diagnostic logging is off by default and stays local when you turn it on.

Checks happen. Downloads wait.

Capto checks the signed release feed at startup and every 30 minutes. Downloads begin only when you start them and install on the next launch.

Settings and Library entries survive every upgrade.
